Are we telling tall tales?

While topics about sustainability and climate change are increasingly present in all sectors of society and business, in this panel we will explore the role of the media in shaping this perception and monitoring topics about sustainability. By gathering representatives of the leading media companies in Croatia, we will find out whether the media are just observers or actively advocating issues that are inevitable when it comes to our future. One thing is certain – just as the media played an important role in all socio-political changes, perhaps now is the right time to highlight their contribution to environmental changes as well. Because, at the end of the day, every story has the possibility of a twist, and it is the media that often initiates that twist.

Are they a kind of “ecological conductors”, coordinating information and encouraging stories about ecological transition, or should they go a step further? Some of the media have already embarked on creating their own sustainable projects and initiatives within their platforms. How they found the balance between monitoring climate change, distinguishing “fake news” from potentially crucial information, and how challenging it is today, our panelists will reveal to us. Do journalists who follow green changes become specialists and analysts in the sea of information from different sources? Regardless of the different perspectives, there may not be one “right” path or unique answer.
